GYPSY SPORT Spring 2018 Runway Show
Join designer Rio Uribe and his anarchic tribe of street-cast fashion rebels for Gypsy Sport's latest show, staged this season in Paris' Place de la République. Hailing from New York's Harlem city streets, the former CFDA prize winner showed a typically transgressive collection on the pavement where Parisians gathered after the Charlie Hebdo and November 2015 terror attacks. With a setting steeped in history, solidarity and vibrant youth culture, Gypsy Sport's spring/summer 18 collection celebrates radical diversity, inclusivity and above all, freedom – what better backdrop than in the heart of the City of Love?

Rio Uribe likes to think outside the fashion box. With his brand Gypsy Sport, founded in 2012, Rio anchors fashion in the streets and celebrates radical diversity, inclusivity and freedom. In September, he staged his transgressive spring/summer 18 collection onto the pavement of Paris' Place de la République, right under the eye of its sacred statue, where Parisians gathered after the Charlie Hebdo attack and November 2015 attacks, and where hundreds of French activists protested against the ultra-liberal presidential program for months during Nuit Debout. The stage felt anarchic and natural: a pro-Morsi demonstration, tango dancers, teenagers gathering for a long night out, vagabonds of all types and a large crowd of fashion fans. Rio’s street-cast crew of models walked the busy square with pride, in a spirit of communion and freedom. i-D followed Rio backstage during his Parisian adventure, from the casting to the final show celebrated the irreverent energy of Paris youth culture.
